Lewis the koala who became the symbol of the devastating Australian bushfires has died after failing to recover from his horrific burns. The koala was being given round-the-clock care at an animal hospital after being plucked from a tree in New South Wales. he was hand-fed leaves and had his wounds tended to after a raging inferno destroyed his home. But sadly in the end it became only humane to euthanize him because his burns did not improve at all. Ecologists at the University of Sydney estimate around 480 million creatures have been killed in the wildfires, including 8,000 koalas. Officials fear that 30 per cent of the koala colony in New South Wales had been destroyed as 10 million acres of land burnt to the ground in the state.
The SpectraCare Foundation intends to do all possible across the ocean to help. Every dime donated restricted for this purpose will go to helping these animals. We are working through Rotary International in Australia to make sure your donations will be sent for veterinary supplies for use by animal hospitals and veterinarians who are donating time to help save as many animals affected and still alive as possible. Please be as generous as you can. despite all the need we have for helpless and abused animals in the U.S., this is off the graph.
